International Women's Day 2024

Inspiring Inclusion on International Women’s Day

CASAS is committed to inspiring inclusion, we always have been! From our female founder beginnings in 1984 to our incredibly talented and caring team of today, we continue to be inspired by and work towards the greatness that comes from forging a creative and collaborative team.

Join us as we check in with two amazing female leaders at CASAS, Trade Compliance Manager and Licensed Customs Broker, Gloria Vidaña, and Warehouse Manager, Carina Casas, as they elaborate on what this day means to them.

What does International Women's Day mean to you?

GV: A day to reflect on the opportunities I've been fortunate to encounter throughout my life, in professional education and other professional pursuits, I'm reminded of the countless women in the past who were denied these same opportunities, often misrepresented, or unfairly undervalued.

CC: The significance of International Women's Day has evolved considerably throughout my professional path. It represents the ongoing journey towards gender equality. It is a day to celebrate the achievements of women and advocate for a more inclusive and just world. This year's CAMPAIGN theme "Inspire Inclusion" makes me reflect on the women in my life who have influenced my personal sense of belonging, relevance and perseverance.

What does being a woman in International Trade mean to you?

GV: As an active participant in the international movement of goods, I play an important role in ensuring their efficient and compliant transfer across borders. While it may appear to be a small part, this responsibility is paramount in ensuring that goods reach their intended destinations promptly and in a compliant manner.

CC: The international trade community has seen notable accomplishments including leadership roles in global corporations and entrepreneurs in cross-border business. CASAS International was founded by two remarkable women who successfully overcame gender barriers and have supported the growth of many women along the way. In the dynamic realm of international trade, women will continue to strengthen continuity amidst complexities and rapid changes. Natural disasters, geopolitical events, public health emergencies, technological disruptions, and economic crisis can significantly impact international trade. COVID-19 was no exception. The resilience demonstrated by women in supply chain (and many fields) showcased the importance of diverse perspectives. Perspectives that contributed to strategic decision making and successful contingency planning while navigating numerous unexpected challenges.

What do you hope for our industry as it pertains to women?

GV: Continued and increased representation and leadership roles.

CC: My hope is that women will continue to empower and support other women professionally and personally. "Fight for the things that you care about. But do it in a way that will lead others to join you." Ruth B. Ginsburg.

We thank Gloria and Carina for their wise words and authentic leadership and celebrate all women in International Trade and beyond! Happy International Women’s Day!
